Description

I accidentally bought a hockey star at a charity auction.

Don't ask me how—it happened fast. One minute I was sipping champagne, the next I was "dating" Rake Hanson, the league's grumpiest player.

Correction: a musclebound, six-foot-four mistake.

Rake Hanson is a walking cliché: too many abs, zero personality, and a jawline sharp enough to cut glass. Not my type. At all.

Our chemistry? Frozen.
Our date? A disaster.
Our marriage? …Yeah, about that.

One wild night in Vegas later, I'm suddenly Mrs. Puck-Head.

His agent insists we stay married for the season. My sanity insists otherwise.

The problem?

My fake husband may grunt more than he speaks, but he kisses like he means it — and looks at me like I'm his winning goal.

Every time he touches me, I forget why I can't stand him.

Someone save me — before I fall for the grump with the big stick.

From USA Today bestselling author M. Lane comes a perfect combination of fun and sizzle about a sports hater and the hockey player she falls for. This slow-burn romance features a plucky main character and the one man she brings to his knees. If you like to indulge your secret bad-girl side, this is the book for you.

This book is so good and has all the feels and humor. The characters are well developed with lots of heartfelt banter. Plot was fun too. I rarely pass out stars but this author earned every single one. Don’t miss out - read it!

This book is an easy read. Plotline is simple but the characters are flawed and funny making them relatable. The pacing I pretty well done. I will not ending is rather rushed, the story was building good momentum and it kind of feels like door slammed shut and suddenly every loose end is wrapped up in a blink. I would say this is a decent starter romance novel. It has a good balance of dialogue and spicy scenes but if you’re looking for something more involved or with a more complex storyline this is not it. It’s an easy going good time read, predictable plot and rather straightforward and works well as a comfort read.

The writing is horrible, the characters are insufferable and it’s incredibly stupid

DNF for me at 70%. I tried to power through it but this was too amateur for me. Dialogue was not believable half the time.

85% and dnf! It was so cringy! The start was good. Felt like a light romance novel and i expected cheesy but omg! This was over the top. And I dont know why, but the fmc kinda pmo, not gonna lie. It’s mostly her dialogues that I found cringy!

While this story has a number of the usual romance novel tropes, it doesn’t hit the usual notes, and that makes the story that much better. There’s no “does he love me? I’m going to over-react and leave” drama, just the usual kind one expects from a couple getting to know each other, even if they did get married on a date she “won” (blame the fly) in a charity auction. These characters are believable in that their reactions to the situations they find themselves are not over the top, but instead are true to how real people would respond to the crazy things that happen. Petal is snarky without being mean or rude, and Rake responds to her personality rather than try to mold her to fit the “standard” for hockey WAGs. Looking forward to more stories in this series.
