Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding novel that captured the world's imagination. "Part love story, part fable ... defies both genres and expectations." —The Boston Globe

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

There is so much to this book that I find new depth and nuance every time I read it. This was my fourth reading and it gets better each time.

One of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. The author captures the magic of the Victorian era perfectly. A must read for lovers of fantasy, magic and, yes, love.

I first took interest in reading this book in 9th grade. It was the Fall of 2010 and my mother was working on an event at my school. The theme was a circus theme inspired by the title circus of the book. When she described the story to me, I thought, “Sounds interesting,” so I started reading it and almost instantly became absorbed. With each page, I was eager to know what would happen next and I was reluctant to put the book down until I was finished. It is truly spellbinding and to this day, it remains one of my favorite books.

I had hopes and couldn’t get past halfway. It’s lacking a story with a soul. Everything is surface thin.

I loved this story! I bought this at an airport several years ago to read during the flight and ended up using most of my vacation to read it. I just couldn’t put it down and have re-read it many times since. It’s a really fun romance.
  • It was okay

The book was okay. It was lengthy and a bit anti climactic. As a movie I think it would do well but the book felt long and drawn out
  • Saturated with detail

The descriptions of environments in this book are highly detailed. The core plot or story cannot always be found and is eclipsed by the settings until the very end.
