The crimes are so, so dark and troubling … but the storytelling, characters and settings are always so good. I can never put one of Karin Slaughter’s books down once I start. I wish I had more of her work to read - but I’ve read them all. Will eagerly wait for the next one!

I usually don’t read books about abducted children, but once I downloaded the sample, I was hooked into the story. The plot was very interesting and kept me reading late into the night. The author set a great pace, never allowing things to drag. As a sociologist, I found the use of the statistics interesting. The family plot line and the interesting, flawed, characters kept it real. I’ve read bestsellers recently that made me want my money back, but not this time.

What a great book! It’s a definite page turner!

Limitless twists and turns. A dark tale well told.

Secrets and lies continue to plague families, and sheriffs in the south seem to have tremendous power, sometimes leading to coverups not only in families but also communities. Serial killers don’t wear signs, psychopaths come in all shapes and sizes, and this author has written another outstanding book that was full of surprises!! The characters are memorable and captured the small town dynamics I remember so well from growing up in the south. I hope there’s a sequel of Emmy Lou and Jude working together on future cases. Great team!!

Excellent storyline, just takes too long to get going.

I really tried and pressed to read and enjoy this book, however, the author lost me after while…

What a story. So many stories and all of them kept me on my toes.

Karin Slaughter always fascinates her readers with the dynamic nature of her characters and the complex and sinister ways of the psychopaths as she brilliantly describes their haunting lives and the inner workings of their dark and twisted homicidal tendency and how they carry them out. This was brutally wicked!
