Enter the world of Throne of Glass with the first book in this complete, #1 bestselling series by Sarah J. Maas, author of the Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series.

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival-and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1 bestselling series that has captivated readers worldwide.

Initially, I approached this series with a healthy dose of skepticism. The premise, a deadly competition to become the King's Champion, had me bracing for a rehash of The Hunger Games. Thankfully, my anxieties were completely unfounded. This book stands firmly on its own. The romance, a potential pitfall in many fantasy novels, was handled with remarkable restraint. It simmered beneath the surface, adding a layer of tension without overwhelming the narrative. This subtlety was a welcome change, allowing the other facets of the story to shine. Nehemia, in particular, was a revelation. Her character is truly golden, a beacon of strength and loyalty. Watching Celaena forge a genuine friendship was a heartwarming highlight, adding a much-needed emotional anchor to the high-stakes competition. After a somewhat lukewarm experience with A Court of Thorns and Roses, which left me questioning Maas's widespread acclaim, Throne of Glass has completely redeemed her in my eyes. This book is a testament to her storytelling prowess, demonstrating her ability to craft engaging characters and intricate plots. I'm now eagerly anticipating diving into the rest of the series, excited to see where Celaena's journey takes her. Throne of Glass is a promising start to what I suspect will be an epic adventure.

I found it difficult to get through, the plot was predictable and sometimes even frustrating to read as the main character is supposed to be the smartest and most cunning character in the book, yet couldn’t figure out what was going on for most of the book that I had figured out in 5 minutes.

It was such a good book and I highly recommend reading Assassins Blade first so you understand what’s going on and why it’s so important.

Clever twists. The main character was explained well, but not exhaustively. I liked that writer gave her not only good love interests, but developed friendships with men and women, so it didn’t seem that every man she met was blown away/in love with her. I do think her character could have been a bit more aggressive/intimidating, given her occupation. Excited to read more of the series!

Poorly written, obvious plot, a bit too corny for what it is. Didn’t live up to the hype.
